At least 26 members of Syrian military forces killed in Daesh attack
At least 26 members of the Syrian military forces were killed Monday in an attack launched by members of Daesh in eastern Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The Observatory stated that Daesh members operating in the Syrian Badia carried out an ambush Monday morning by targeting a military convoy in the desert of Al-Mayadeen city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
After the ambush, violent clashes erupted between the two parties. Head of the Observatory Rami Abdel Rahman said at least seven of the 26 killed were Syrian troops, while the remaining casualties were mostly Syrian militia fighters.

Syria and Iraq could see Daesh revival
Christiane Waked Filed on January 25, 2021
Daesh has increased its pace of operations with deadly tactics such as ambushes, assassinations and explosions.
The administration of former US President Donald Trump had announced its intention to withdraw 500 troops in mid-January, leaving only 2,500 in Iraq. Almost all troops from other member-states of the anti-Daesh coalition had left the country at the start of the novel Covid-19 pandemic.
It is true that the chances of Daesh controlling a territory in Syria or Iraq like the one it had before are minimal but that doesn’t mean that they cannot mobilise the estimated 18,000 remaining fighters in the aforementioned countries.
