Florida Attempts To Increase Vaccinations By Leaving Loose Syringes Around Beaches
TALLAHASSEE, FL In an effort to overcome vaccine hesitancy and reduce spread of the coronavirus, Florida announced a new program Monday that aims to increase immunizations by scattering hundreds of thousands of loose hypodermic needles on beaches throughout the state. “In order to reach Floridians who have refused inoculation, we will be hiding syringes filled with the Covid vaccine across Miami Beach, Cocoa Beach, Henderson Beach State Park, Key West, and other highly trafficked spots along our shoreline,” said Gov. President Joe Biden has promised enough covid vaccine to immunize every willing adult by June 1. But right now, the gap between supply and demand is so dramatic that vaccinators are discovering ways to suck the final drops out of each vaccine vial if federal regulators will let them.
Pharmacists involved in the covid vaccination drive say it s common to have half a dose left in a Pfizer vial after five or even six doses have been administered and to have half a dose left after 10 doses have been drawn out of a Moderna vial. Combining two half-doses could increase vaccinations by thousands at a time when 2 million or so doses are being administered every day in the country.

LINCOLN, Neb. â Becton Dickinson (BD) has led in needle and syringe production all across the world for years. Now, they re putting all their efforts into COVID-19 syringes, even expanding production to meet the needs of the mass vaccination effort.
BD has four locations in Nebraska and has been doing business in the state for about 70 years. We normally make seven billion syringes a year, we re going to make an extra billion this year to specifically deliver the COVID vaccine, BD CEO Thomas Polen said at Governor Ricketts news conference Wednesday.
