PUTRAJAYA (Dec 28): The Federal Court here today reserved its decision on the final attempt by a ‘Datuk’ and two policemen for an immediate release from detention under the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) 1959 in connection with an illegal online gambling syndicate. A five-member panel chaired by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat deferred the judgment on the appeal by businessman Zaidi Kanapiah or better known as “Datuk Addy Kana”, Corporal Muhamad Amin Nur Rashid Mohamed Puad and Corporal Mohd Hairy Mohammad, all aged between 34 and 39, after hearing submissions from both parties. “We will CAV (curia advisari vult) the decision. We adjourn this case,” said Justice Tengku Maimun who presided the appeal with Federal Court Justices Datuk Vernon Ong Lam Kiat, Datuk Zaleha Yusof, Datuk Seri Hasnah Mohammed Hashim and Datuk Rhodzariah Bujang.

KLUANG: Three individuals were killed while eight others were injured in an accident involving eight vehicles, including three lorries, near the Machap toll plaza Monday (Dec 28). Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Low Hang Seng said the incident took place at about 4.15pm Monday at KM85.5 of the Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam road. Based on initial investigations, all eight vehicles were heading towards Machap from Simpang Renggam. Seven of the vehicles then stopped at a traffic light near the toll plaza when a lorry coming from the back crashed into the vehicles in front of it, he said. He said that two of the victims who were in one of the cars died at the scene while another victim from the same car died at Kluang Hospital.

Ku Nan, who turns 70 today, to know graft charge verdict tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 20): Former federal territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who celebrates his 70th birthday today, is going to step into the corridors of the world s second largest court complex tomorrow to know his fate on a RM2 million graft charge. High Court Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan will deliver his verdict on whether the Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general is guilty of the charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code or acquit him. Tengku Adnan, or Ku Nan as he is also known, has been accused of receiving kickbacks totalling RM2 million from Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd (AKSB) managing director Tan Sri Chai Kin Kong during his term as the federal territories minister.
