New Orleans Health Department Partners with NOPD to Officially Add Question of Firearm Possession to Domestic Violence Police Reports
NEW ORLEANS The New Orleans Health Department’s Domestic Violence Program today announced its partnership with the New Orleans Police Department to add a fifth risk question on the Department’s electronic police report that directs patrol officers and asks all victims about the presence and possession of firearms at every domestic violence incident.

Simon Levine will have his second four-year term extended by two years until 2024
Simon Levine DLA Piper has extended the term of its international managing partner Simon Levine by two years as the firm seeks to maintain stability amid the uncertainty created by the coronavirus pandemic. Levine was due to complete his second term at the end of next year, but the board recommended waiving the usual two, four-year term limit and allowing Levine to continue in the role for a further two years. That extension will now coincide with the term of new Americas chair, global co-CEO and global co-chair Frank Ryan, who started his first term last month.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) A New Orleans city council member took the oath of office as the city’s new district attorney Monday, facing a pandemic-related backlog of cases and high expectations from criminal justice reform advocates who rallied around him despite his indictment on federal tax charges.
Jason Williams vowed in his inaugural speech to hold those guilty of serious crimes accountable. But he repeatedly stressed the need in a city with a high incarceration rate and a high percentage of Black prisoners to stop seeking jail time for people whose crimes are related to poverty, drug addiction or mental illness.
