Rangers legend Ally McCoist asks Old Firm fans to go extra mile for MND research

Ally McCoist, inset, has invited fans to take part to coin in cash for the likes of Fernando Ricksen, left, and Doddie Weir OLD Firm rivals Ally McCoist and Simon Donnelly are on a mission to raise funds for motor neurone disease research - and have invited fans to join them.  The pair will pledge cash for every mile walked, ran, or cycled this weekend with all proceeds going towards DoddieAid. Launched by Scots rugby legend Doddie Weir, who is battling the illness, the January activity challenge bids to get people together in virtual hubs across the country to coin in cash for MND research. 

Progress is made on children s play park

Progress is being made on a Millom play park. A large area of the ground has now been dug up in preparation of the construction of the play park. Councillor Simon Donnelly said: Work is going well, the team up there are working hard on creating us a wonderful park and I can t wait to see the finished project. I would like to just say a big thank you to everyone for respecting the site and its boundaries. It makes the project move along a lot faster. Work is hoped to be completed by May. Cllr Donnelly added: It s not really the time of year to build play areas but we wanted it ready for the hot weather in case children can t go on holiday!

Celtic and Motherwell pay tribute to Phil O Donnell on anniversary of tragic death

Motherwell posted on social media: Brave as a lion. Forever 10.  RIP Phil O Donnell.   Celtic added: Today we remember former Celtic player Phil O Donnell, who sadly passed away 13 years ago. Former team-mates of the late Phil O Donnell, Simon Donnelly (left) and Jackie McNamara, join family members on the pitch to pay tribute to O Donnell in 2010 RIP, Phil.   O Donnell started his career at Motherwell in 1990 where he played a major role in them winning the 1991 Scottish Cup. He then moved to the East End of Glasgow in 1994, where he played for five years, before switching to Sheffield Wednesday. His time in England was beset by injury troubles and he returned to Lanarkshire in 2004, spending three years with the Steelmen before his untimely death.
