FAMILIES desperate for their voices to be heard stood in solidarity yesterday as Ofsted begun their re-inspection into Southend’s SEND services. Ofsted is revisiting the special education needs and disabilities services offered across Southend, after their last inspection in 2018 found “significant weaknesses”. SCHOOLS across Furness have taken part in a creative competition aimed at boosting interest in STEM subjects. Pupils from Victoria Academy, Croftlands Junior School, Grange Primary School, Ulverston Victoria High School, George Romney Junior School and Church Walk Primary School have been letting their imaginations run wild as part of a competition run by UlverSTEM. UlverSTEM are a collaboration of local businesses passionate about encouraging young people to continue studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics and highlighting the varied opportunities for STEM related careers. As part of British Science Week, UlverSTEM have been in contact with local primary and secondary schools to take part in activities aimed at helping pupils enjoy STEM subjects in the classroom.
