Work to begin to turn former Greenock west end care home into flats

WORK is set to begin to turn a former Greenock west end care home for adults with severe disabilities into flats for social rent. Maclehose Court closed down last year despite a heartfelt campaign by residents and families to keep it open. The building will now be converted into 22 individual flats, with some kitted out for people with disabilities. Owner Blackwood Care and Homes has confirmed that following Covid-19 delays they hope to have the flats finished by the end of this year. In a new council plan for affordable housing, officials say all of the flats will meet varying degrees of accessibility.

Sign Up New assisted living homes are to be built in Dundee as part of a bid to provide more accessible housing in the city. Fifty-four new homes are to be built at various sites in Charleston, with one application for 12 flats rejected due to fears over road safety. Charity Blackwood Homes and Care, which provides social housing for people with additional living needs, had lodged four applications for flats and houses at seven sites in the residential area. At Dundee City Council’s planning committee on Monday night, Simon Fitzpatrick of the social landlord said the developments could halve the waiting list for accessible homes in the city.
