MARION A bylaw change which would restrict the density of housing allowed to be constructed in town was shot down at the May 10 Town Meeting.
The change, which did not receive a necessary two-thirds majority of voters at the meeting, would have cut the allowable number of housing units in land zoned for high-density housing from 12 units per acre to six.
Voters passed every other question at the meeting, including one to spend $2.7 million more on the wastewater lagoon lining project and another to change the name of the Board of Selectmen to a gender-inclusive moniker, Select Board.
Tucker Burr.
MARION Tucker Burr has lived in town nearly his whole life, and says he isn’t going anywhere else anytime soon.
He says that’s an advantage he has running for the Planning Board, which has a vacancy left by Kristen St. Don-Campbell’s resignation.
Burr said it’s “important that the people on the Planning Board follow through and stay on the Planning Board for the three-year term.”
Additionally, having been a student at Tabor Academy and Sippican School, Burr said he’s “very familiar with the culture of the town.”
“It’s a huge part of me,” he said.

MARION Voters at May 10 Town Meeting will be asked to further fund the town’s wastewater treatment lagoon-lining project, change a bylaw for high-density housing and cast votes on 49 other issues.
The meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, May 10, at Sippican School. All registered Marion voters are eligible to attend and participate.
Those attending will be asked to approve $2.74 million in spending to complete the wastewater lagoon-lining project, needed to bring the sewage lagoons up to current standards designed to prevent wastewater from seeping into nearby Aucoot Cove and from there to Buzzards Bay.

MARION You like jazz?
Marion musician Marcus Monteiro does.
Monteiro has been playing saxophone for nearly thirty years ever since he was a fifth grader at Sippican School, where he learned music from the same teachers there today.
“My son is now 12 years old, and he has the same music teacher, which is pretty cool,” Monteiro said.
The 38-year-old has made a name for himself playing in different bands all over the world, including with his own local band, the MonteiroBots.
