ISLAMABAD – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is mobilizing its agencies and departments to address the growing phenomenon of dangerous extremist groups who hijacked Islam and are committing crimes in the name of religion, says an OIC email Friday here.
The peak of this phenomenon is reached these days in the current crisis of the female students abducted by Boko Haram in Nigeria. The OIC began to act in coordination with its subsidiary organ the International Islamic Fiqh Academy and its Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, Director in the Political Department of the OIC, stressed in a press statement that the issue of the growing phenomenon of dangerous extremist groups will be high on the agenda of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Member States meeting next month in Jeddah.
