Six strands of Kurt Cobain s hair are being auctioned, along with other Nirvana items and personally owned, staged-used or signed memorabilia from The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, and more, as part of Iconic Auctions The Amazing Music Auction . Bidding opens tonight at 7pm CST.
As to the story of how Iconic Auctions came to have six strands of Cobain s hair to auction, the item description explains: This one-of-a-kind artifact is entirely fresh-to-market and is accompanied by an impeccable lineage of provenance including photos of Kurt posing with the woman who cut this hair, scissors in hand, and a fantastic shot of the hair actually being cut! The lucky friend who trimmed the NIRVANA front man s iconic blond locks was an early confidant, Tessa Osbourne, who cut his hair in 1989 well prior to his Nevermind breakthrough while on the Bleach tour. Tessa presented the original lock to Seattle artist Nicole DePolo as a heartfelt gift after

Nevermind breakthrough two years later, the auction house explains.
Osbourne stashed away a lock and later gifted it to Seattle artist, Nicole DePolo, after Kurt s death in 1994.
Along with the strands of dirty blond hair are photos of the haircut in progress and a handwritten note that reads: 29/10/89: Tess cut Kurt s hair in Birmingham, England, 27 Holy Rd., Handsworth, Birmingham B202BU.
DePolo writes in an affidavit that Osbourne must have had a sense that Kurt would become a musical force. She further credited the hairdresser with giving the frontman his first blond pageboy hairdo just before his image began to circulate throughout the world.
