VPA Junior Cameron Gray Named as a 2021 Beinecke Scholar

Share Cameron Gray, a junior film major in the Department of Transmedia in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, has been named the recipient of a 2021 Beinecke Scholarship. She is the second Beinecke Scholar in Syracuse University’s history. The award provides graduate funding and mentorship for juniors in the arts, humanities or social sciences. The Beinecke Scholarship seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated juniors of exceptional promise to pursue graduate study in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The Beinecke Scholarship works with approximately 135 participating institutions. Each school may nominate one candidate per year; the campus nomination process is highly competitive. This year, the Beinecke Scholarship Program received 95 nominations and selected 16 Scholars.

Paolo Sigismondi

Paolo Sigismondi’s primary research and teaching interests focus on the phenomena of globalization forged by new technologies and economic forces such as multinational corporations, especially media, advertising and entertainment conglomerates, and their multifaceted economic, political, social and linguistic impact on societies around the world. He graduated summa cum laude in economics from LUISS University in Rome. At the University of Southern California, he earned an MBA from the Marshall School of Business, a graduate certificate in Business of Entertainment from the School of Cinematic Arts, and an MA and a PhD from USC Annenberg. He has more than a decade of work experience in the global media and entertainment industry. He held executive positions with Mediaset and Telemontecarlo, two leading European media holding companies; in the United States, he worked at the world headquarters of Warner Bros. Entertainment.

Women of Cinematic Arts host fifth annual Feminist Media Festival

Transitioning into the Zoom era, USC’s Women of Cinematic Arts, a student organization for female and gender nonconforming students, hosted its fifth annual and first virtual Feminist Media Festival on Saturday. The club recognized the achievements of these gender minorities at USC and welcomed a variety of women in the entertainment industry to several panels, workshops and a private networking event. The festival began with an opening ceremony featuring Ashley Strumwasser, vice president of film and television at Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine.
