Wedding hall owners in Karachi announced on Saturday that they would be resuming business from the 15th day of Ramazan (April 28), despite the Sindh government having extended corornavirus-related restrictions.
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, All Pakistan Caterers and Decorators Qais Mansoor said the restrictions on wedding ceremonies on account of the coronavirus pandemic had put at risk the livelihoods of around a million people.
Mansoor claimed that the positivity ratio of Covid-19 was “extremely low” in Karachi.

The Sindh home department issued a new notification on Tuesday with a partial modification, extending the Covid-19 lockdown till May 16.
The notification reads, “In continuation and partial modification of this department’s order of even number dated March 31, 2021, and in pursuance of the decisions at the NCOC forum communicated vide letters, the Government of Sindh, in exercise of the powers under Section 3 (1) of Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014 (The Sindh Act VIII of 2015), is pleased to re-direct as under with immediate effect and till 16th May, 2021, unless changed or amended earlier.”
It says there will be broader lockdowns in areas having more than eight per cent positivity rate with stringent enforcement protocols based on risk assessment, and no mobility will be allowed except in emergency by commissioners and deputy commissioners under the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014.

In light of the National Command and Operation Centre s (NCOC) instructions, the Sindh government has tightened Covid-19 restrictions, imposing a complete ban on wedding functions from April 6, has announced broader lockdowns in areas with a positivity rate of eight per cent or higher and has bound transporters to operate vehicles at 50 per cent capacity.
A notification issued by the Sindh home department additional secretary on Wednesday stated that in pursuance of the decisions taken by the NCOC and communicated via letters dated March 22, 2021 and March 29, 2021, the Sindh government, in exercise of powers under Section 3(1) of the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act, 2014 was enforcing a new set of coronavirus-related restrictions with immediate effect until April 11, 2021.

The notification said that amusement parks are to be closed by 6pm, while 50 per cent of the staff members of all public and private sector offices are to work from home.
