KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided not to hold any public meeting in the NA-249 constituency of Karachi in connection with the upcoming by-election for the National Assembly seat. The PPP had earlier announced that it would hold a big public meeting in the constituency on Monday (today).
A statement issued on Sunday quoted Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah as saying that the public meeting had been called off on the direction of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Shah said that the party chief had issued the directives to this effect in view of the surge in the cases of Covid-19 in the city as Pakistan fights against the third wave of the deadly viral disease.The information minister said that the provincial government of the PPP had since the beginning performed a leadership role in the country to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Malir Expressway route changed ‘to ensure minimum displacement of people’

In consideration of reservations of residents of Malir who feared displacement due to the Malir Expressway project, the Sindh government has announced that it has made changes in the route of the expressway.
The announcement to this effect was made by Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Friday as he chaired a meeting on the Malir Expressway project.
The local government minister said the proposed route of the Malir Expressway had been revised keeping in view the demands of the concerned residents of District Malir. He maintained that the Sindh government had made changes in the project to ensure that least possible number of people had to be displaced as a result of the Malir Expressway’s construction. He promised that the displaced population would also be provided with alternative accommodation.

A new bridge crossing over the Indus River in Sukkur will greatly reduce the traffic burden on the ageing Lansdowne Bridge built by the British in 1889, said the Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Sunday.
During a visit to the proposed construction site for a new bridge to connect Sukkur and Rohri cities across the Indus River, he directed Sukkur Deputy Commissioner Rana Adeel Taswar to prepare a feasibility report for the project at the earliest.
