Mukesh Kumar Chawla directs officers to further improve the tax collection Karachi, January 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Department and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla has directed the officers to further improve the tax collection situation as timely collection of taxes is a matter of urgency. He said this while presiding over a meeting at his office here today. The meeting was also attended by Secretary Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Abdul Haleem Sheikh, Directors General Haji Saleem Bhutto, Munir Ahmed Zardari, Additional Director Nasir Affandi, all Regional Directors and concerned officers. The meeting reviewed the collection of taxes by December 2020 and measures to eradicate drugs in the province. He also directed to form a team to conduct internal audit of Motor Vehicle Wing. Issues related to excise check posts and excise police stations were also discussed in the meeting.

Chief Secretary Sindh reviews security, arrangements for by-elections Karachi, January 07, 2021 (PPI-OT): An important meeting was held at Sindh Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah here on Thursday. The meeting reviewed security and other administrative arrangements for the by-elections to be held in Umerkot, Malir, Sanghar and Tharparkar from 18th January to 21st February 2021. The meeting also discussed matter of encroachment at lands of KCR and government agencies in the province. The meeting was attended by the Provincial Election Commissioner Aijaz Anwar Chohan, Senior Member Board of Revenue Qazi Shahid Pervaiz, All administrative Secretaries, All Divisional Commissioners, AIG Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon, Administrator KMC and all Deputy Commissioners of Sindh.

Burnes Road food street to go traffic-free from January 10

Karachi January 7, 2021 Citizens will not be allowed to take their vehicles to Karachi’s Burnes Road food street from January 10. The decision to pedestrianise the well-known food street has been made by the Sindh government to facilitate the food lovers and to beautify the Old City area. Officials said the announcement was made after close consultation with the District South administration and the city’s traffic police department. They said several meetings had been convened by the Sindh government with the district administration and other relevant departments to formulate the plan. Talking to The News, Deputy Inspector General of Police Iqbal Dara said he had directed his subordinates to make frequent visits to the intersections surrounding the food street and mark the locations of diversion points to avert any gridlocks or traffic mess, particularly during peak hours.

Sindh collects Rs43945.876 million in July to December 2020 Karachi, January 06, 2021 (PPI-OT): Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla has said that Sindh Excise and Taxation Department had collected a total of more than Rs43954 million in various taxes from July 2020 to December 2020. During the same period of the last financial year, tax of Rs39981.528 million was collected. He said this while presiding over a meeting here in his office. The meeting was also attended by Secretary Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Abdul Haleem Sheikh, Director Generals Haji Saleem Bhutto, Munir Ahmed Zardari, Additional Director Nasir Affandi, Director Taxes Iqbal Leghari and other officers.

He said this in meeting with a delegation of Specialized Training (Police Service of Pakistan) who called on him on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by IG Sindh Mushtaq Ahmed Maher, Additional Chief Secretary Sindh Muhammad Usman Chachar and other officers of Planning and Development, Finance, and Energy Department Government of Sindh. The delegation was briefed on law and order, finance department and mega projects of Karachi.
