Senate elections due on March 3

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Thursday issued the schedule for the upcoming Senate elections, according to which, polling will be held on March 3 to elect new members of the Upper House of Parliament upon retirement of 52 senators on March 11.
According to the schedule, the candidates can submit nomination papers by February 12 and 13, at the offices of the returning officers. The list of nominated candidates will be posted on February 14, 2021. The schedule has been announced while a big question mark looms on the mode of conduct of election to be adopted.

KARACHI: While the province has been seeing a surge in the number of dog bite cases over the years, causing immeasurable human sufferings and increasing hostility against the poor animal in society, the provincial government seems to be in no hurry to make uniform local government byelaws under which officials would be required to provide protection from stray animals and ensure their humane handling, sources told

The government ‘indifference’, they said, had also led the municipalities to continue with their brutal mass culling practices as means to curb canine population and incidence of their attacks.
The Sindh High Court on Thursday took exception to the delay in the framing of by-laws for dealing with the matter of stray dogs under the Sindh Local Government Act 2013, directing the LG.
