The Sindh High Court directed the provincial chief secretary and Sindh Food Authority (SFA) secretary on Saturday to personally monitor wheat distribution in the province and replace ineligible officials with eligible ones to ensure the fair distribution of wheat.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Irfan Saadat Khan and Justice Adnanul Karim Memon, issued the order on a plea pertaining to the unfair distribution of wheat in Sindh and alleged corruption in the distribution of the produce.

ISLAMABAD: The food authorities established in Sindh and Balochistan over the past few years are still facing teething problems and have not yet become fully operational, an institutional capacity assessment of the two authorities shows.
The Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Progress (Grasp) project funded by the European Union conducted the capacity assessment of the two food authorities at a stakeholders’ workshop in Islamabad in order to identify areas and activities for technical assistance and to develop a plan for strengthening them as per best international practices.
The assessment report outlined the need for standard operating procedures (SOPs) for determining the standards of various edible commodities, harmonisation of food regulations, field visits, and storage and display of foods.

The Sindh Food Authority imposed a Rs500,000 fine on a local brand factory in Karachi’s Korangi on Tuesday.
The production unit has been sealed now, according to the authority.
The factory, where pasta, vermicelli, and cakes, were being made was violating the cleanliness standards set by the authority.
It was found in violation of the following:
No bathroom in the production unit.
Lack of pest control.
Misrepresentation of ‘Halal’ logo.
The authority has said that it will not tolerate violation of hygiene SOPs.
