THE District Council is not responsible for maintaining the recreation area, including the shelters, along the riverside in Kg Digot as the property on which these structures are sited has yet to be handed over to the agency. A Council spokesman said a check on its records revealed that the land on which the recreation area was situated was not public or government property. “It is considered private land. CITY Hall will, from time to time, keep an eye on the condition of the concrete slabs placed over the drains in Taman Bukit Sepanggar. A spokesman for the agency said its staff had been instructed to ensure that the drains were not exposed and the slabs covering these structures remained securely in place. “Ratepayers should also alert us directly of any irregularities involving the drains so that action can be taken to deal with these problems as soon as possible,” he said.

FIVE Kepayan rate-payers were compounded by City Hall during an operation carried out in Taman Ridgeview Phase 12 recently. A City Hall spokesman said three motorists, whose vehicles had encroached on the housing roads, were found to have contravened the agency’s parking by laws. He said a home-owner was also penalised for the haphazard disposal of garbage, including biscuit and oil tins, in the common area near his/ her home. Two Kolombong proprietors have been instructed to remove the garden waste they threw on the road-shoulder outside their respective premises along Jalan Kilang.  A City Hall spokesman said the proprietors had pruned the trees outside their compound and dumped the cut branches at two separate sections of the verge. “In one instance, the trimmings stretched for meters and encroached onto part of the stretch,” he said. City Hall hopes to provide rate-payers at some Inanam shophouses with new communal bins, following a complaint that these receptacles badly needed to be changed. A spokesman for the agency’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) said any bins which were no longer fit to be used would be replaced. “This work will be carried out in stages. We are in the process of changing the bins in the central business district for Kota Kinabalu,” he said.
