Singer-songwriter Mojo Ruiz de Luzuriaga, known as Mo’Ju, is once again proving there’s no genre she can’t tackle. Presented by the Australian Music Vault – and as part of the Live at the Bowl outdoor concert series – the ARIA-nominated artist is collaborating with Orchestra Victoria for an unmissable show. Not only is performing a Vault Sessions gig a privilege, but it’s also a massive undertaking, especially if you’ve not performed a show in a while. We sat down with Mo’Ju to see how she’s feeling.

This contemporary orchestra have performed on New Year’s Eve for over 30 years, but this time, they are reinventing their sell-out show for television so everyone at home can join in on the festivities. Nine last night hosted a very different Carols by Candlelight in keeping with the challenges of 2020. No audience was present, following a decision by Vision Australia, but producers cleverly ensured a social distanced choir gave performers someone to perform to. A massive video screen behind the orchestra, led by John Foreman, included childrens’ choirs and virtual performances from the likes of Jamie Cullum & Chris Sebastian. Amongst the on stage highlights were Casey Donovan, Sylvie Paladino, the cast of Hamilton, Dami Im and Jess Hitchcock. Livinia Nixon, joined by Eddie McGuire, was particularly well-suited to the occasion. And a special mention to ‘Santa’s helper’ this year in the form of actor Mike Bishop.

When the social distancing restrictions were in full force during late winter and spring, it felt like warm summer days and the Christmas season were a long way off, but for much of the time we were restricted to our homes, the light we hoped to see at the end of lockdown was a relatively normal festive season.

How Carols will adjust for no live audience

She’s been part of the Nine family since 1997 but on Thursday Livinia Nixon finally gets a chance to co-host the iconic Carols by Candlelight. Most years she attends in the audience with her husband and two young sons, but her boys couldn’t be happier to see her take to the stage this year at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. This year’s Vision Australia event will be a little different, with organisers deciding against having public in attendance. But there is a special plan to still include singing from the Bowl’s seats. “There won’t be empty rows. They’ll configure the choir so that everybody’s socially distant,” she tells
