Council hears committee’s NTVs recommendation

SIDNEY The issue of non-traditional vehicles (NTVs) on Sidney roadways was discussed during Sidney City Council’s virtual workshop session Monday.
Randy Rose, chairman of the Non-Traditional Vehicle Use Ad Hoc Committee, presented the committee’s recommendation on the use of NTVs on city streets.
Currently, low speed, non-traditional vehicles are not permitted to operate on Sidney city streets. Violators will be cited by Sidney Police as of May 1, which was when the warning period ended.
The Ad Hoc Committee reviewed and reworked tabled ordinance A-3020 that Police Chief Will Balling first presented to City Council in July 2020.

Committee wraps up report on non-traditional vehicles

SIDNEY After a series of somewhat contentious meetings, the Non-Traditional Vehicle Use Ad Hoc Committee wrapped up its study Thursday morning and came to a recommendation on the use of golf carts and other non-traditional vehicles (NTVs) for Sidney city roadways. A report on the committee’s recommendation will be presented to the Sidney City Council Monday evening.
Currently, low speed, non-traditional vehicles are not permitted to operate on Sidney city streets. Violators will begin to be cited by Sidney Police starting May 1.
The purpose of the committee’s final teleconference meeting was to complete a review of ordinance A-3020 on the use of NTVs on city streets, which City Council tabled at its March 22 meeting.
Council authorizes Shelby Public Transit contracts

SIDNEY Shelby Public Transit contracts for federal and state grant funding and the Elderly and Disabled Fare Assistance Program were authorized Monday evening during Sidney City Council’s teleconference meeting.
Details of the two resolutions pertaining to the Shelby Public Transit include the following:
• The authorization of the annual application to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for 2022 operating and capital grant funding, and also to authorize City Manager Mark Cundiff to execute a contract with ODOT upon the approval of the grant application. A federal operating grant of $475,270, and a state operating grant $115,000 is being requested. In capital spending, the total grant request is $237,500. This is for federal and state maintenance and two vehicle replacements.
Council learns details of new revitalization program

SIDNEY Information about a new revitalization program was presented to the Sidney City Council during its Monday evening hybrid-style meeting.
Kyle Havenar, the city’s vacant property inspector, gave a presentation on the guidelines of new program, called the Neighborhood Pride Grant. The goal of the program is to help with exterior improvements of homes in Sidney neighborhoods. Examples of these improvements include landscaping; exterior painting historic homes must use age appropriate color pallet; porch repair; sidewalk repair; outdoor lighting; and/or planter boxes.
The revitalization program, Havenar said, encourages neighbors to collaborate on exterior improvements to their properties. Its mission is to promote restoration, beautification, and preservation; inspire confidence and pride in neighborhoods; connect neighbors; and stimulate reinvestment and revitalization.
