Trying to think of an article I could put together for this week, the easiest topic to throw out there was who Dustin Poirier would fight for the UFC title. Coming off his upset win over Conor McGregor, it’s clear Poirier will be one half of the title picture once the UFC has declared Khabib is no longer the champion. As I began working on it, I came across an article put out there by my colleague, Zane Simon. While Zane makes some solid points, I totally disagreed with who he believes is the right choice. Given that, I said screw it, I’m going forward with the article since we came to different conclusions.
LowKick MMA will be bringing you UFC 257: Poirier vs. McGregor II results throughout the afternoon (Sun. 24th. January 2021) from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Rounding out the promotion’s first pay-per-view event of the year, a pivotal lightweight rematch six-years in the making. Former interim lightweight champion, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier re-runs his September 2014 matchup with former undisputed featherweight and lightweight titleholder, ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor in a potential 155-pound title-eliminator.
Returning to winning-ways last time out, Lafayette striker, Poirier hopes to make it two wins in two, following a barnburner unanimous decision victory over event co-headliner, Dan ‘The Hangman’ Hooker at UFC Vegas 4 in June last. The American Top Team staple is tasked with avenging at UFC 178 opening round knockout defeat to the Dubliner.

MMA is back in full swing this week. After a multi-week lull through the Holiday season, a number of promotions are back in action. Of course, the UFC is kicking off its 2021 on Saturday but there is also LFA, Brave CF, and more to cover in this edition of the Weekly MMA Prospect Report.
LFA 97 | US | Friday
Lightweight, Nick Browne (10-1)
Browne’s sole loss is to John Gunther, and while that looks… not so good in hindsight, he does have a few good wins. He’s beat opponents like Sidney Outlaw, Troy Lamson, Ben Egli, and Trey Ogden who are all good fighters. Browne doesn’t have much to offer on the feet but strikes well to close the distance to wrestle. He’s a strong grappler being a big submission threat with five submission wins. Taking the back and finishing with the RNC is what he’s best at. He fights Arthur Estrázulas (12-4).
