Additionally, others believed she was lost in the streets of Skid Row whilst others suggested she was the victim of a police cover-up.
Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, director Joe Berlinger explained why it was now the right time to tell the story of Elisa Lam.
He said: Now was a good time to tell this story and to tell it the right way, because, for two reasons, one is I think it s incredibly disrespectful to the victim, Elisa Lam, who we focus on, to dismiss her tragedy as a ghost story. And that s what other tellings basically have done, they ve leaned into the paranormal and the supernatural. And, you know, that s just not what s at play here.
