The Center for the Arts at George Mason University announced the 2021/2022 season of Great Performances at Mason during a digitally streamed announcement for Friends and Subscribers, Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m. The announcement includes a return to in-venue performances, featuring an outstanding lineup of national and International Artists and ensembles across the disciplines of classical music, opera, jazz, global music, modern dance, and theater. The season kicks off Saturday, September 25, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with Art Emerging: A Celebration of Renewal. The family-friendly event celebrates the return to live in-person performances as well as the 20th anniversary of Mason s College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Fiona Khuong-Huu from Japan/France/United States is a Junior Semi-Finalist in the Menuhin Competition.
The official start to the Menuhin Competition Richmond 2021 kicks off this Friday, May 14 at 7 a.m. with an in-person-only celebration concert from the Richmond Symphony featuring Angelo Xiang Yu, 2021 juror and winner of the Oslo 2010 Senior 1st Prize, and conducted by Jahja Ling. The symphony will offer a repeat performance on May 15 at 8 p.m.
That’s not all – there are more amazing concerts to follow during the prestigious 10-day violin competition. In addition to several performances from the Richmond Symphony, Menuhin will feature Sphinx Virtuosi, former Menuhin champions, and exceptional performers from around the globe.

The 2021-22 UMS season will include a variety of in-person performances, as well as digital content, according to its president, Matthew VanBesien. The season will include a number of new “commissioned” performances, and the UMS president says the live performances will begin later than they usually do in a typical season.
The first in-person event will be the Big Band Holidays with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on Sunday, November 28 in Hill Auditorium. VanBesien says they are taking many precautions to make sure people attending in person events are protected and comfortable.
