Tighter controls for those travelling from Singapore

PUTRAJAYA: Travellers from Singapore will have to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine instead of the usual 10 days from Thursday. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this was decided at a National Security Council meeting on May 7 due to the discovery of Covid-19 variants of concern (VOC) in the republic. “The decision was made based on reports by the Singapore’s Health Ministry that three VOCs as well as a variant of interest (VOI) from India were found to have spread locally within the country, ” he said in a statement yesterday. Dr Noor Hisham said the meeting also decided to suspend the Malaysia-Singapore Reciprocal Green Lane for business travellers from the same day.
