High-speed chase leads to time in jail for Taber-area man

A Taber-area man who led police on a high-speed chase in a stolen pickup truck will serve time in a federal penitentiary.
Bernhard Peters was sentenced to 26 months in prison after he pleaded guilty Wednesday in Lethbridge provincial court to charges of possession of stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle, flight from police, driving while prohibited, dangerous driving, and failure to comply with release conditions.
On Jan. 12 of last year Peters had spent the night at his girlfriend’s father’s home, but when the homeowner left the following morning he noticed his car was not in the driveway. His daughter, who normally drives the car, said she never gave anyone permission to drive it, and the keys should be in her bedroom.

BEL AIR, MD Allison Redman, of Bel Air, has been riding horses for nearly 20 years. These days, she keeps her horse Sydney at Normandy Farms in Street, where Redman also volunteers in the Therapeutic Riding program for individuals with special needs.
Though Redman, 27, has grown up in Maryland and spent years around horses, she has never been to the Preakness Stakes. However, that is set to change on Saturday when Redman will be at Baltimore s Pimlico Race Course in her official capacity as Miss Maryland. Redman will be a guest of the Maryland Jockey Club and has been told she will present a trophy, though she is not sure for which race.
For the 10th consecutive year, the Centre County community came through with another record-setting effort in support of local nonprofits.
Centre Gives, Centre Foundation’s annual 36-hour online giving event, raised $2,238,995 through 16,624 more than 190 nonprofit organizations between 9 a.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The total eclipses the $2,179,143 raised last year. A record total has been set each year since Centre Gives’ inception in 2012 and during that time the event has raised more than $12.5 million for nonprofits working in the areas of arts, animals, education, environment, health and social services and more.
