The mural was set to be retired by the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs in preparation for the new Vladem Contemporary Art Museum, but the mural’s future isn’t dead yet. ...................... Guzman recently filed a federal lawsuit over his mural’s preservation, claiming the department breached his artist’s contract and the Visual Artists Rights Act. His attorney, Penelope Quintero, did not return requests for comment.
