The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting 19 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, but no new deaths, while just four new cases were reported by Southwestern Public Health.
MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ONT. A London man has been charged after he allegedly smashed an abandoned toilet and used the pieces to cause damage downtown. Police responded to the area of William and Pall Mall streets shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a man throwing pieces of a broken toilet at a passing vehicle. According to investigators, a citizen had earlier seen the suspect pickup the toilet and drop it, causing it to break. Witnesses also told police the suspect was seen hitting a parked SUV on William with some kind of tool. The suspect was arrested shortly afterward in the area of Piccadilly Street, just west of Adelaide Street, in possession of a ratchet.
LONDON, ONT. City Hall is adding more than a dozen new short-term parking spots throughout downtown London to help businesses during the pandemic. This is to allow identifiable locations for customers and food delivery drivers when making stops. New signs are being installed at various locations in the core.

(Supplied) “We’ve heard from businesses that they need clear and convenient areas for their customers and delivery services,” said Orest Katolyk, Chief Municipal Law Enforcement Officer in a news release. “We’ve done our best to fill those requests, balancing the need for safety as well. In identifying these locations, we’ve considered pedestrian safety, transit, emergency services, traffic flow and accessibility,” he adds.
MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ONT. Ontario s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now involved after the arrest of an alleged impaired driver reportedly left him and three London police officers injured. London police were responding to multiple 911 calls shortly before noon on Sunday about a suspected impaired driver. A white, four-door Volkswagen was reportedly driving erratically in the south end. The driver was then seen asleep at the wheel, and when a citizen knocked on the window he reportedly drove away through a red light. The vehicle was then spotted almost hitting a man on a bicycle in the area of Wharncliffe Road and Baseline Road West.
With St. Patrick’s Day celebrations set for Wednesday of this week, city officials are urging Londoners to keep celebrations small, outdoors and within households.
