Alberta Working On Return Strategy | Standardbred Canada

The following statement was made by Horse Racing Alberta on Wednesday (April 7). On Tuesday (April 6), Jason Kenney, premier of Alberta, announced that expanded restrictions are back in place across the province as the result of an increased risk from variants of COVID-19. The news is testing the resiliency of the racing industry, and horsemen s concerns were discussed during the COVID-19 Response Planning meeting Wednesday (April 7). Horse Racing Alberta, tracks and horsemen s organizations are committed to working together to ensure the health and safety of racing participants, as well as a strategy to move racing forward. Alberta Harness Racing In The Spotlight | Standardbred Canada

It s a big family. We all have a common love of the animal. Colleen Haining, who serves as project manager of the Alberta Standardbred Horse Association (ASHA), is tasked with representing Alberta horsepeople and promoting harness racing to a growing audience. As far as Haining is concerned, the family-oriented nature of the harness racing industry and the docile temperament of Standardbreds are major selling points toward growing the game. [Harness racing] is very family friendly, she said in a recent profile published in the spring edition of Alberta Bits, which is published by the Alberta Equestrian Federation. There s no charge to park at a racetrack; there s no charge to come and watch the horses . We like to promote Come and meet the horses, because there s a lot of city people who never get to touch a horse.

Important Alberta Stakes Information | Standardbred Canada

Trot Insider would like to advise horsemen of some important information pertaining to the start of the 2021 stakes season in Alberta. The first stakes in Alberta for 2021 are the Bev Sears and Ed Tracey Stakes, a pair of open stakes for four-year-olds that were created to alleviate the cancellation of last year s Moore s Mile and Norm Kennedy for three-year-olds. The original conditions for these stakes this year accidentally noted the races as restricted to Alberta-owned, sired or foaled horses and nomination forms were sent to the connections of eligible Alberta-owned, sired and foaled horses as such. Please note the correction that the Bev Sears and Ed Tracey are indeed open stakes for four-year-olds.
