BANGKOK (The Nation/ANN): The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Thursday (May 27) reported 3,323 new cases and a record high of 47 deaths over a 24-hour period.
Of the cases, 2,083 were contacted locally, 1,219 were found in prisons and 21 were returnees.
Bangkok led the list with 894 cases, followed by 280 in Samut Prakan, 233 in Phetchaburi, 129 in Nonthaburi and 98 in Pathum Thani.
The capital also led the list of fatalities with 26 dead, followed by four in Nonthaburi, three in Chiang Mai, and one each in Yala, Ayutthaya, Mukdahan, Phetchaburi, Ratchaburi, Khon Kaen, Si Sa Ket, Chonburi, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Tak, Amnat Charoen, Nan and Songkhla.

Operating hours of shopping malls, supermarkets and convenience stores will be shortened further in 18 high-risk provinces in order to reduce the spread of Covid-19, the Thai Retailers Association (TRA) said on Saturday.
In addition, 42 provinces have now made mask-wearing in public mandatory, while officials in Nonthaburi are asking but not yet ordering residents to stay home from 9pm to 4am.

A young con artist led police on a long-distance chase after stealing an older admirer s car in Si Sa Ket as they were taking a meal at a department store.
Piriya Liseeda, 21, from Chachoengsao, took the Nissan from the carpark of the Big C in Muang district on April 12.
The pair had met for the first time the day before after he fell enamoured with her profile on Facebook where she is wearing army camouflage gear. Ms Piriya told police later they were still getting to know each other when she decided to steal his car.
