Shasta County could see a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases this summer, according to health workers.
Public health issued a warning Monday that said the county is at higher risk of a case spike than many other areas of the state. With vaccine rates increasing nationwide, the current concern isn’t about another nationwide surge, but potential state or local spikes, the report said.
Health officials listed three criteria that make the North State more vulnerable:
Lower vaccination rates: In Shasta County, about 42.% of eligible people (ages 12 and older) have had at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine. That s about two thirds of the statewide average, 61%. Almost half of all Americans (48%) had at least one vaccine dose.
