Cop probing rape-torture in Cebu secret police cell fears for life

A top Central Visayas police official said he feared for his life after the killing of the main witness in a sensational case involving alleged torture and rape of local policemen in a secret cell in Cebu City.

Human nga gipatay atong witness, nabalaka jud ko sa akong kinabuhi (After our witness was killed, I worry for my life), Police Major Alejandro Batobalonos told Rappler on Saturday, April 24.
Batobalanos is the head of the Integrity Monitoring and Enhancement Group (IMEG) Central Visayas Field Unit which was investigating the claims of at least 3 women that they were raped and tortured by at least 11 cops inside a secret room at the Pasil Police Station 6 (Sawang Calero Police Station) in Cebu City.

+ April 23, 2021 THE Cebu City Government has withdrawn the legal assistance it vowed to provide to the family of Ritchie Nepomuceno, the woman who was gunned down after filing a complaint against 11 cops of the Sawang Calero Police Station for alleged rape and extortion.
In an interview, Cebu City Legal Officer Rey Gealon said the Cebu City Government chose not to intervene anymore after receiving reports from the local police that Nepomuceno was allegedly involved in illegal drugs.

+ April 23, 2021 THE Cebu City Government has withdrawn its promise to provide legal assistance to the family of Ritchie Nepomuceno, the woman who was gunned down weeks after accusing 11 policemen of rape and extortion.
Cebu City Legal Officer Rey Gealon said Friday, April 23, 2021, that they decided to retract after learning that the killing of Nepomuceno may have been related to illegal drugs.
“The mayor was under the impression that Nepomuceno was a victim of random killing. But police investigation showed that it may have been related to illegal drugs,” Gealon said.
