(File photo) “Visitor activity at the Hooker Valley Track decreased by 69 per cent over a similar period. Visitor activity at Blue Lakes and Tasman Glacier decreased by 67 per cent.” Jones said it was “not possible” to provide the total number of visitors to the national park in 2020, which surpassed 1 million people in 2019. She said this was “due to the impacts of Covid-19 on visitor trends and demographics meaning formulas DOC used previously to calculate numbers are not viable this year”.

Shape of hospitality workplace post-lockdown

THE Government’s roadmap for easing restrictions across the country has given employers the ability to plan for the re-opening of their businesses and make the most of some pent-up demand. The Prime Minister’s announcement for England to move to step two of the roadmap from April 12 is particularly welcome news for many businesses in the hospitality, holiday accommodation and attractions sectors. With evidence suggesting a bumper summer for UK tourism, it’s important employers get their staffing levels right in advance of re-opening. The extension of the furlough scheme to September 30 will help employers manage the return to work for those still furloughed, and some will be recruiting in light of anticipated demand.
