Liliana âLiliâ Gomez, running for Position No. 3, is a Hermiston native and a records specialist for the Hermiston Police Department. She said she has always had an interest in education, including serving as a tutor during her teenage years and teaching English overseas. She is on the Hermiston School District budget committee.
Now that students have returned to school full time, Gomez said she believes it is important for the district to focus on studentsâ mental health and be proactive about having resources available for students as they return.
âWe all know that this took a toll on every single person, adults included, and no doubt this took a toll on students,â she said.
This letter is to introduce Mrs. Sally Anderson Hansell, who is running for a position on the Hermiston School Board.
Mrs. Hansell grew up in Hermiston, graduated from Hermiston High School, and went on to get her degree in law. She is a practicing attorney in Hermiston. She has three children in the Hermiston schools at this time; she also has to school her husband, Tyler Hansell, occasionally.
Mrs. Hansell has seen what COVID has done to her childrenâs education and believes your children have been affected too. She believes that school is more than learning to read, write and mathematics â it is a place where discipline and respect are taught. School is a place where children see old friends and make new ones.
