His Excellency Mr Eliam Tangirongo has been commissioned to take up his new role in New Zealand.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare administered the Commissioning ceremony at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in the presence of senior Government Officials and Family members.
The Prime Minister reminded High Commissioner Tangirongo that his tasks as the new High Commissioner to New Zealand is first to represent and promote the interests of the Government of Solomon Islands in New Zealand. These tasks could be political, economic, social and cultural.

A provincial leader in the Solomon Islands claims he was denied funds for brain surgery after he objected to the island’s switch of diplomatic allegiance from Taiwan to the Peoples Republic of China.
Speaking exclusively with Sky News Australia host Sharri Markson, Mr Suidani claimed he was offered bribes by China to support was is popularly known in the Solomon s as the “switch”.

Solomon Airlines has announced an expansion of the national tourism initiative ‘Iumi Tugeda Holidays’ in time for Solomon Islands Independence Day, to further support the local tourism industry and encourage more Solomon Islanders to travel on the discounted holiday deals throughout 2021.
With additional accommodation operators in the Western, Temotu and Makira Provinces now joining the programme, from today, Iumi Tugeda Holidays includes 47 tourism operators offering heavily discounted accommodation and travel opportunities across 12 destinations through to 31 March, 2022.

Political figure warns of poor hospital service
The daughter of Bougainville s late Minister for Health, Raymond Masono, has warned that the region s main hospital is not fit for purpose.
Masono, who also served as Bougainville s vice-president, died last week at Buka Hospital, although the cause of death has not been made public.
His daughter, Amanda Masono, a local legislative representative for the women of North Bougainville, said the hospital was not equipped to deal with an emergency.
Masono said when she visited her father in hospital she saw nurses running about searching for equipment to help him.
Sogavare Reiterates Commitment to Öne China Policy
“Within the short time of our bilateral relationship, you have delivered, and your assistance and support has touched the lives of ordinary Solomon Islanders,” he added.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has reiterated the Government’s respect and commitment to the One China Policy when he attended the opening of a Photo Exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the Chinese Embassy in Honiara.
Sogavare assured Chinese Ambassador Li Ming and staff of the Embassy that the Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement (DCGA) remains committed to “uphold the One China Policy and no amount of influence would sway the Government from this noble Principle”.
