Grand jury returns rape, assault indictments against Rev Mark Hession

A grand jury returned indictments against a former Fall River and New Bedford pastor on Friday, with multiple counts of rape and assault and battery.  The Rev. Mark Hession was indicted out of Barnstable Superior Court on two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and battery on a child less than 14 and one count of intimidation of a witness, a superior court official confirmed Monday. Hession served as parochial vicar at Holy Name Church in Fall River after he was ordained in 1984 and in 1987 was transferred to St. Mary Church in New Bedford. He also has served at St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans and at Charlton Memorial Hospital as a chaplain.

Doctors, nurses, cleaning staff and others stationed in COVID units, emergency rooms or other front-line positions received the injection after workers unpacked the frozen vaccine vials in a puff of cold mist. The arrival of the vaccine, developed in record time by Pfizer and BioNTech, a German company with U.S. headquarters in Cambridge, has been met with jubilation from health experts. The beginning of these injections, they say, marks a big step toward ending the pandemic.

Fall River COVID cases jump by 235 over weekend, ahead of vaccine s arrival The Herald News and State House News Service reports FALL RIVER While Fall River saw an increase of 235 confirmed cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, hope is on the way as the city prepares to receive its first shipment of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine on Tuesday. The latest jump in cases, from Saturday through Monday, puts the total number of COVID cases identified in Fall River at 6,301, according to the office of Mayor Paul Coogan. Six city residents died of the highly infectious coronavirus in that three-day span. Since the start of the pandemic in March, Fall River has reported 198 virus-related fatalities.
