It’s been around 100 days since the Washington County Board of Commissioners added two new members and things are off to a good start.
“I can sum it up in one word,” said Commission President Kevin Ritter with a laugh. “Bromance.”
Commissioners Jamie Booth and Charlie Schilling replaced David White and Ron Feathers in January after being voted in during November’s general election.
Ritter said he was surprised at how quickly they have identified and understood each other’s strengths.
“I think we work together very effectively as a team,” he said.
Booth said in areas where one commissioner may be a little bit short, the others pick it up.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently selected the Devola sewer project for federal funding in the amount of $1.075 million.
Washington County Commissioner Charlie Schilling announced the funding at Thursday morning’s commission meeting.
“This is a really big deal and it just goes to show the work that we have been putting in … in order to help the residents of Devola,” he said. “Not only the residents of Devola, but the residents of Washington County when it comes to the sewer system.”
A letter from the Corps’ planning, programs and project management division said the sewer project was deemed eligible for the Section 594 Program. The funding is applicable toward project design and construction costs.

A notice of appeal was filed Wednesday with the Environmental Review Appeals Commission in answer to the permit to install granted for the Devola Sewer Project.
Greg DeGulis, attorney for the group Devola Against Sewering Homes, said it is an administrative appeal of the director’s decision to grant the permit to install the sewer in Devola.
DASH is made of opponents of the Devola Sewer Project, which will affect about 560 households using either drywell disposal systems or septic tanks for wastewater.

A funding request for the Devola sewer project will soon be sent to U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Ohio, by the Washington County Commission.
“The Republican conference in the House of Representatives is allowing each Republican member to identify up to 10 projects for infrastructure funding,” explained Commission President Kevin Ritter at Thursday’s board meeting. “What this board is doing is making the application to Rep. Johnson’s office for the Devola sewer project to be included as one of those projects.”
