Former Senator Bill Nelson is now the new administrator of NASA. He’s the 14th agency administrator and the second consecutive politician to hold the post.
Nelson was sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris. His wife and two children were at his side along with former administrators Charlie Bolden and Jim Bridenstine who joined virtually.
Pointing to the past administrators, Nelson said it showed “the continuity and bipartisanship with which you run the country’s space program.”

Vice President Kamala Harris’ first act as Chair of the National Space Council was swearing in Bill Nelson as the NASA Administrator Monday morning, reports News 6 partner Florida Today.
Nelson was surrounded by his wife and children and used a family bible for the swearing in ceremony.
Also in attendance was former NASA Administrator under Barack Obama, Charlie Bolden and Pam Melroy, the current nominee for Deputy NASA Administrator. Former administrator under Donald Trump, Jim Bridenstine attended virtually.

Former Florida senator Bill Nelson was sworn in Monday as head of NASA, hailing a new day for space exploration as the United States seeks to return to the Moon.
With his hand on a Bible, Nelson took the oath of office from Vice President Kamala Harris as he officially took up the role of NASA Administrator. It s a new day in space, he said, after bringing a Moon rock to the event.
Nelson, 78, who traveled into space in 1986, takes over the agency with the United States hoping to put astronauts back on the Moon by 2024.
