Sheriff Mark Reynolds reiterated what heâs long said about Comal County support for justice operations, which county commissioners recognized in proclamations again on Thursday.
Commissioners designated May 9-15 as National Police Week and Saturday as National Peace Officers Memorial Day in the county in a proclamation calling âupon all residents to honor those peace officers who, through their courageous deeds, have lost their lives or have become disabled in the performance of duty.â
Reynolds and CCSO staffers and deputies joined constables in accepting the proclamation.
âCounty residents show their appreciation almost every day,â Reynolds said. âI canât tell you how many times weâre thanked while weâre out working and even at lunch, when the bill comes and you find out someone has taken care of it.Â

After several meetings and much discussion, Kings Mountain City Council greenlighted a zoning change that will allow a 730-unit subdivision to be constructed on Kings Mountain Boulevard.
The action came after a public hearing Tuesday night. The unanimous vote means developer R.D. Harrell Co. can move ahead with the plan to create Cannon 35, a mixture of townhomes, apartments and a retirement community with entrances on Kings Mountain Boulevard, Crocker Road and north of Margrace Road.
Charles Stephens has lived on Crocker Road for 48 years. The 77-year-old man said no matter what the developer says about studies and plans, he’s concerned about the traffic and potential strain on schools such a large subdivision would bring.
Police violence must stop
Dear Editor:
Police violence needs to be stopped. The young African-American man in Minnesota is dead because he had an air freshener on his mirror and expired registration. An African-American military lieutenant in Virginia is abused with pepper spray and restrained because the police couldn’t see his new auto license taped to his window.
Why use such unnecessary violence? If I, as a white man, drove with an air freshener on my mirror or was driving with an expired registration or even without a visible license plate, I might be stopped, given a fine and receive a needed lecture, but not pepper sprayed, put in handcuffs and arrested, let alone tasered or shot dead.
