The first game at Polar Park for the Worcester Red Sox is three weeks away, and team and city leaders were excited to show off the nearly complete baseball stadium Tuesday.
The 9,508-capacity stadium will host its first WooSox game May 11, and the Boston Red Sox have been using the ballpark in the past few weeks for training and exhibition games while crews finish construction.
Not everything will be ready for the first game, and much of the stadium is still being worked on aside from the playing field. Fencing still rings most of the ballpark, and trees and a grassy area outside the main entrance on Madison Street are being installed now. Four oversized decorative Boston Red Sox championship rings are scattered across the plaza.

BRANFORD (AP) A man who fired numerous gunshots Tuesday from a building in Connecticut as police surrounded the property was found dead inside, police said.
Police said the man holed up in a building on Main Street in Branford, a New Haven suburb. One person was reported injured.
Officers were called to the scene on a report of shots fired shortly after 12 p.m. EDT and encountered heavy gunfire coming from the upper floors of a building that has a hair salon on the first floor, Branford police said.
911 callers reported a gunshot victim, who was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, authorities said.
UMass Memorial Health to work with Worcester Red Sox at improving fans’ well-being at Polar Park with exercise

The partnership between UMass Memorial Health and the Worcester Red Sox aims at improving the well-being of fans entering Polar Park this year.
On Tuesday, the organizations announced several programs at the ballpark that will bolster fans’ health focused around improving eating habits and exercise.
“In our commitment as one of the Founding Partners and the WooSox’ exclusive health care provider, we are teaming up to improve the health and well-being of our community, especially the children,” UMass Memorial Health President and CEO Dr. Eric Dickson said in a statement. “We are two hometown heroes putting on our uniforms to relentlessly create a healthy and vibrant community in Central Massachusetts where we live, work and play ball.”
