District 7 Councilmember Gabe Leland Detroit city councilmember Gabe Leland has remained in office for more than two years since he was charged with taking a bribe from a local business owner, a solicitation the FBI says it has on a wire recording. Now, with an election approaching and no felony conviction to bar him from serving, he’s considering running again. According to Police Commissioner William Davis, one of Leland’s would-be opponents, the District 7 councilman told him in December that he would seek re-election this fall. Leland is said to have said the same to at least one constituent.
CHAMPAIGN â Local authorities are seeking temporary restraining orders against two local restaurants that are continuing to operate with suspended health permits.
Hearings have been set for Thursday for temporary restraining orders filed by the Champaign County Stateâs Attorneyâs Office against Lil Bufordâs, 102 N. Long St., Tolono, and by the Champaign-Urbana Public Health Districtâs attorney, Ruth Wyman, against Merry-Annâs Diner, 1510 S. Neil St., C.
The health permits for both restaurants were suspended earlier this month after they continued to serve indoors in violation of a state order forbidding indoor service at bars and restaurants in an effort to control the spread of COVID-19.
Continuing EU control
SIR – We do not have to wade very far into the 1,246-page Brexit deal to find out how the EU is going to enforce its “level playing field” upon the UK.
From page 10 onwards we read that: “A Partnership Council is hereby established. It shall be co-chaired by an EC member and a UK government Minister. It shall comprise representatives of the [EU] and UK. It shall meet at least once a year.
“The Partnership Council shall have the power to: [among other things] . adopt, by decision, amendments to this Agreement . A number of Committees [of the Partnership Council] are hereby established.”
