CHARLES CITY – Now that the holiday season is past and winter has truly set in, the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce is coordinating some outdoor fun to help break up those winter blahs.
The annual Cabin Fever Weekend is set for January 30-31, with a variety of activity providers offering a chance to get out of the house and enjoy the better parts of winter.
From 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30
th, the Charles City Public Library will be hosting appearances from the characters Elephant and Piggie during a special drive-thru “Snap a Selfie” in the back parking lot. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, participating youth will each receive a treat as well.

Fareway Stores recently announced a second donation in the amount of $200,000 to the Iowa Association of Chambers of Commerce (IACC). The donation provided for up to $2,000 in gift cards to IACC chamber of commerce members in the communities Fareway serves.
The Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce applied for and received $2,000 in $50 gift cards, which were distributed this month to local community nursing and assisted living facilities, Floyd County Medical Center and Comprehensive Systems to benefit their front-line health care employees. Earlier this year, the Chamber and local Fareway store managers distributed a total of $3,000 in gift cards to small businesses in town that were impacted the most by required business shutdowns and restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
