Hub to drive agricultural research and innovation

CDU CDU Acting PVC Research and Innovation Steve Rogers, DITT’s Lorraine Corowa, Minister David Littleproud, Natural Resource Management CEO Karen May, NT Farmers CEO Paul Burke and CDU Provost Mike Wilson. Partners of the Northern Western Australia and Northern Territory (NWANT) Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub welcomed Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia David Littleproud in Darwin yesterday. The Minister expressed his strong support for the Hub program and his vision for the role of regional universities in both supporting the program and driving agricultural research and innovation. Charles Darwin University (CDU) Provost Mike Wilson and Acting PVC Research and Innovation Steve Rogers briefed the Minister on the plans for the Hub at CDU’s Darwin Waterfront Campus.

War refugee receives prestigious scholarship

CDU Scholarship recipient John Chol Deng Chol is a Bachelor of Nursing student. This year’s recipient of the Charles See Kee Leadership Scholarship is Charles Darwin University (CDU) Bachelor of Nursing student John Chol Deng Chol. Mr Chol knows firsthand about hardship and loss. He was only 10 years old when he fled his home in South Sudan, escaping the atrocities of a civil war that killed four of his brothers. Mr Chol said he’s humbled to receive the scholarship, a $14,000 bursary for students who are humanitarian entrants or refugees. “I’m honoured by this award and I pay tribute to the vision of Mr See Kee, who-like me-came here as a war refugee. Thanks to his enduring legacy, I can pay down my student loans and focus more attention on my studies,” Mr Chol said.

Camlock fitting for the royal australian navy

CHALLENGE To demonstrate the capability of SPEE3D technology to produce metal parts on demand for the Royal Australian Navy. These parts also need to meet military specifications however the process of 3D printing parts is fundamentally different than conventional manufacturing. Conventional methods already have established pathways for achieving these certifications. The challange was to establish a pathway for 3D printed parts to also achieve the certification. This was a collaborative project with Charles Darwin University (CDU). SOLUTION The solution was to print an aluminium camlock hose fitting that was designed as per the relevant military specifications and have this part validated through functional testing.

Drought hub rollout progresses in Territory and Western Australia

CDU Partners of The Northern Western Australia and Northern Territory (NWANT) Hub will join the Federal Government’s Future Drought Fund Science to Practice Innovation Forum today. Partners of the Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub will join forces online today as plans for the hub’s rollout across the Northern Territory and Western Australia take shape. Partners of The Northern Western Australia and Northern Territory (NWANT) Hub will join other Hubs nationwide as a part of the Federal Government’s Future Drought Fund Science to Practice Innovation Forum: ‘Building the Foundations of Drought Resilience’ held on 29 June to 1 July 2021.
