The victim of a suspected homicide in Wellington has been named by police.
Rau Tongia was found dead in the driveway of a Karori property on Sunday morning. Police were still at the Percy Dyett Drive property on Monday morning, accompanied by a forensic team.
Detective Sergeant Steve Wescott said they had been at the address in the early hours of Sunday morning before the 33-year-old was found dead, having been called to a disorder incident. The community can expect to see a significant police presence in the area over the coming days, as we seek to provide reassurance to local residents and speak to potential witnesses, said Detective Sergeant Steve Wescott.

Police have confirmed the identity of the Wellington man found dead in Karori yesterday and are speaking to a number of people in relation to the homicide investigation.
On Sunday morning, police were called to a property on Percy Dyett Dr, Karori, after the man s family found him at the Wellington home.
On Monday, police said they had made progress in the investigation and had formally identified the victim as 33-year-old Rau Tongia.
Detective Sergeant Steve Wescott said they were following strong lines of enquiry and working towards finding those responsible.
Police are investigating whether the murder of a man in Wellington is gang-related. A homicide investigation was launched on Sunday after Rau Tongia’s body was discovered by a family member about 8.20am at an address on Percy Dyett Dr, in Karori.
Stuff understands the 33-year-old had gang connections and police are investigating whether his death is linked to gang activity. It’s understood a party, which went into the early hours of Sunday morning, was being held at one of several properties down the driveway currently cordoned off by police.
