A drug driver who was involved in a Cunningham Highway crash later claimed he had been running late for an appearance in court.
Ipswich Magistrates Court heard Adam Walter Harry Boreham was “highly erratic” and fell asleep while police were talking with him.
Despite telling police he hadn’t taken anything before driving, a drug test later showed Boreham, 28, was under the influence of a cocktail of drugs at the time of the crash.
The court heard Boreham was sitting in the driver’s seat of his blue Holden Commodore about 7.35am when police arrived at the crash on the Cunningham Hwy, New Chum on August 12, 2020.

BAIL has been refused for an Ipswich father who allegedly implied he would gas his children, an Ipswich court has heard.
The man, who must not be named in order to protect his family members, has been held in custody after being charged with breaching the conditions of a domestic violence order.
He appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court by video to apply for bail. The court heard the man had contacted the mother of his children, allegedly telling her she wouldn’t see her children again and saying he had “put his foot on the gas”.
The engine had been left running and the front passenger side door was open. Police observed what appeared to be a male person running into an apartment complex, Sgt Caldwell said. The court heard a police dog was deployed, tracking from the crashed Nissan to another car parked at the complex. The police dog bit, on the left upper leg, (Mafi) who was hiding under the vehicle, Sgt Caldwell said. The court heard Mafi was questioned by police and his wound was tended to by first aid. He claimed he hadn t driven the car but told police two different versions of his story, each time naming a different driver.
