Prior to this week, Richland County was receiving anywhere from 800 to 1,600 doses of vaccine each week, divided among about a dozen providers including local hospitals, pharmacies, Kroger and Walmart. (The weekly shipment does not include doses earmarked for residents and staff of long-term care facilities, administered by CVS and Walgreens.)
Nearly 15,000 people in Richland County, about 12% of the county s population, have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, including over 8,300 who have been fully vaccinated.
The latest allotment does not include the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which received emergency approval from the Food and Drug Administration on Saturday.

MANSFIELD Richland Public Health expects to receive 300 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine early next week.
RPH Commissioner Sarah Humphrey said the Ohio Department of Health has said the doses will start shipping Monday or Tuesday.
The local health department will distribute the initial doses to EMS and direct patient caregivers first and then follow the Phase 1A priority listing through the U.S. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which advises the Centers for Disease Control. We expect that our first allotment will go quickly, but we will be receiving vaccine in regular intervals, in increasing amounts, Humphrey said Wednesday.
