Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s controversial ousted leader who has been detained by authorities since Monday following a coup by the country’s military has now been formally charged. The charges levied against Suu Kyi include violating import and export laws, and possession of unlawful communication devices imported walkie-talkies.
Legal charges against the Nobel laureate, whose popularity has endured for years in the country, might seem obscure. All-female four-boat, The Bristol Gulls, including for the first time a Uruguayan skipper, raced into English Harbour, Antigua, completing this year’s Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge on the 27th January 2021.
The four fanatic rowers – Sofia Deambrosis, Phoebe Wright, Sarah Hunt & Lorna Carter - who all dreamt of completing this challenge, made it a reality finishing the 3,000-mile rowing race in 46 days, 7 hours, 50 minutes.
Last fall, Tim Dowling booked enough slots at an abattoir for about two of his cattle to be slaughtered and processed each month until December 2021. If he were to book this week, however, the earliest slot he could get from that facility would be about a year away.
The grass-fed-beef farmer on Howe Island, east of Kingston on the St. Lawrence River, isn’t a stranger to such waits. It took about seven months before he recently learned that he was at the front of a wait-list at one of those two small-scale slaughterhouses ahead of about 150 others. “We re direct-selling meat to folks in our community,” he says. “And if we don’t have bookings, we’re in big trouble.”
