Breckenridge Ski Resort opened inbounds terrain on Peak 6 on Friday, Jan. 29.
The opening of terrain on Peak 6 brings skiing and riding to all five of the resort’s inbounds peaks for the first time this winter. It’s also the first true high-Alpine skiing and riding experience guests can access inbounds at the resort.
Vail Resorts spokeswoman Sara Lococo said the majority of Peak 6’s intermediate terrain is now open, as well as the Intuition run and hike-to terrain in Beyond Bowl. Lococo described the effort to open Peak 6 this weekend as “huge” for the resort’s grooming, patrol, lift and mountain operations teams.

Safe Slopes Colorado, a coalition with the goal of increasing safety and transparency at ski areas, recently released a report detailing the number of traumatic snowsports injuries over the course of the 2017-18 ski season. The report includes data from the Colorado Trauma Registry and was compiled by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
The report tallies 1,426 injuries that took place at Colorado ski areas and were treated at Level I-III trauma centers from Nov. 14, 2017, to April 15, 2018. A hospital’s designation equates to the level of care it can provide, with a Level I center capable of providing total care for every aspect of injury

The goal of every ski area is to get as much terrain open before the holidays that typically bring crowds of eager skiers and snowboarders to Summit County. This year there is the added incentive that more terrain means more room to spread out and, at ski areas using reservation systems, more availability. Unfortunately Mother Nature hasn’t helped out much, but snowmaking has allowed resorts to get lower mountain terrain open.
At Breckenridge Ski Resort, terrain on Peak 10 opened last weekend with the Falcon SuperChair, which means four of the resort’s five peaks have open trails, said Breckenridge spokesperson Sara Lococo. She added that mountain operations teams are prepping Peak 6 the last peak to open and Peak 8’s Imperial Express SuperChair and T-Bar with snowmaking and patrol work. Lococo reported that Breckenridge had just over 750 acres open as of Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Several outbreaks have been reported among ski area employees in the first weeks of ski season, including one at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area and two each at Keystone Resort and Breckenridge Ski Resort. All of the outbreaks were initially reported by public health officials as two cases each.
In their state-approved operation plans for the season, each ski resort was required to address plans for isolating and quarantining employees who are sick or exposed to COVID-19 in the workplace, including sending the employee home and identifying other employees who might have been exposed
.
But for workers who live in employee housing, the process is a bit more complicated.
