Renaissance man Shawn Lyons, who wrote the book on Alaska hiking, dies at 66

Print article Shawn Lyons poet, classical guitarist, teacher, historian, restauranteur and an adventurous hiker who left his footprints across the Chugach Mountains and far, far beyond died suddenly Tuesday at an Anchorage hospital. He was 66. Lyons was the unique center of a wildly diverse Venn diagram. He wrote the multi-volume “Walk-About Guide to Alaska,” was a board member of the Alaska Huts Association, played classical guitar nightly at a Mediterranean restaurant, taught music and English at UAA, wrote poetry and was a regular on a podcast that discussed philosophy and psychology.

MONTPELIER â Legislative leaders were pleased to hear Gov. Phil Scott address the need for investment in broadband, housing, child care and weatherization in his budget address on Tuesday.
But leaders including House Speaker Jill Krowinski and Senate President pro tempore Becca Balint are withholding judgement until they see more policy details in Scottâs $6.8 billion spending proposal, delivered in an address to a virtual joint session of the General Assembly.
And there are areas where Balint and Krowinski would have like to seen more investment in climate change initiatives and in mental health services. Balint said she would like to see weatherization as a yearly rather than one-time program, and Krowinski said âthereâs much more to be done.â

In her new position, Christina will be responsible for upgrading current HBO streaming services in existing markets (HBO Nordic, HBO España, HBO Portugal and HBO Go in Central Eastern Europe) to HBO Max services starting in 2021, and for the expansion in due course of HBO Max into more territories across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She reports into Johannes Larcher, Head of HBO Max International.

New review supports stricter control of HbA1C levels among children with type 1 diabetes
Diabetes is characterized by elevated levels of sugar or glucose (hyperglycemia) in the blood. This occurs due to the lack of the hormone insulin in type 1 diabetes, and to reduced insulin levels in combination with insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes. A recent review of data supports stricter control of hemoglobin A1C levels (HbA1C) among pediatric patients with T1D. This review was led by Dr. Maria J. Redondo, pediatric endocrinologist at Texas Children s Hospital and professor at Baylor College of Medicine, in collaboration with Dr. Sarah Lyons, pediatric endocrinologist at Texas Children s and assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine, along with other leading endocrinologists and diabetes experts across the U.S.
