Young TikTokers are uploading old photos of parents or other loved ones who ve died so they can have current photos of them together.
Those who have used the Green Screen Scan effect in this way told BuzzFeed News that the experience was overwhelming and heartbreaking but also cathartic.
The Green Screen Scan imposes the user onto any photo they choose to upload in the background so that the results, or new photo, looks like one flattened image. Like many videos on the app, the filter was first used jokingly as a way to convince a parent that you were somewhere that you were not.

Swimming & Diving to Not Compete in 2020-21 Season
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The University of New Mexico swimming and diving program will not compete in the 2020-21 season, instead turning their attention to next year’s 2021-22 season. The decision was made and supported by the student-athletes after a team meeting.
The team had not announced a schedule for the 2020-21 season, and the team has not been able to practice due to the current health order in the state of New Mexico. The 2021 Mountain West Championships are scheduled for February 18-20, with the swimming championships hosted by UNLV the diving championships hosted by Air Force. The team needed to have competed in four meets prior to the championships.
