IT S the landmark Southampton building that used to be a strip club. Harbour House is a Grade II-listed edifice which occupies a prime site overlooking the water at Town Quay and boasts bags of potential. Part of the building used to be occupied by a gentlemen s club called Playhouse, which closed in 2015. Now the hunt is on for anyone who wants to either buy Harbour House or lease the part that contained the club. But anyone interested in acquiring the freehold will need deep pockets. Offers in the region of £1.7m are being sought. Built in 1925, the baroque-style building opposite the Red Funnel terminal boasts a distinctive dome, plus eye-catching clock faces and a weather vane. Other features include an original wooden spiral staircase.
“We are committed to making Southampton City a safer place for everyone to enjoy.” This follows a letter to the Hampshire Police Crime Commissioner last year, from the city’s Business Improvement District (BID) GO! Southampton which requested an urgent review of city centre policing. This was after 70 per cent of its members felt fear of crime was a significant issue with 63 per cent having witnessed at least one staff member assaulted in the last 12 months. Giles Semper, Executive Director at GO! Southampton said the return of the police team is “hugely welcome and a relief for the businesses”. “We’ve been fighting for a long time to improve the overall safety in Southampton as well as reduce crime – and we hope the police presence will go even further in achieving that.”

Cattle Steakhouse in Southampton has lost its licence following a breach of coronavirus rules. CIVIC chiefs said they are not prepared to tolerate breaches of Coronavirus rules. City leaders have urged residents to continue to follow the rules as the country emerges from the pandemic. It comes as Southampton restaurant Cattle Steakhouse in Hanover Buildings has been stripped of its licence after people were found drinking at the venue on January 24 while the country was in lockdown. Hampshire Constabulary asked for the restaurant to have its licence suspended for three months. But the Licensing Sub-Committee at Southampton City Council said revoking the licence was the only proportionate response .
