In split vote, Lisle village board urges Pritzker to veto police reform bill

In split vote, Lisle village board urges Pritzker to veto police reform bill   Updated 2/16/2021 10:00 PM Lisle trustees narrowly approved a resolution urging Gov. J.B. Pritzker to veto a sweeping criminal justice reform bill. The 4-3 vote Monday by the village board takes aim at House Bill 3653, which was passed by the General Assembly in the final hours of a January session before lawmakers new terms began.   Lisle s resolution criticizes several unfunded regulatory mandates in House Bill 3653, including testing, record keeping and the implementation of body cameras. If signed by the governor, the legislation would make it easier to decertify and fire problematic officers, eliminate cash bail by 2023 and mandate body cameras by 2025, among other provisions.

Fire displaces Lisle trustee and family

Fire displaces Lisle trustee and family   A Lisle trustee and her family were displaced by a house fire Monday morning. There were no injuries reported, but the fire left the home on the 4500 block of Basswood Drive uninhabitable, Lisle-Woodridge Fire District officials said.   Firefighters responded at 9:54 a.m. to the home after a 911 caller reported a basement fire. The first unit to arrive initially didn t find evidence of a fire, officials said. Later, crews confirmed there was a hidden fire in the basement. The blaze ultimately spread into the upper levels of the home. The fire was brought under control roughly 35 minutes after crews arrived, but firefighters remained at the scene until around 11:45 a.m.

Lessons for all in Lisle police-community partnership, village trustee says

Updated 1/9/2021 6:41 PM Trustee Sara Sadat is hoping the rest of the country can learn from Lisle when it comes to the community and police working together. Sadat held a news conference Saturday at North Arbor View Park to discuss the community and policing partnership. The Lisle community and Lisle police department has done everything right from the very get-go, Sadat said.   Sadat said the work of Unity Partnership, a grassroots movement to improve policing and policy, is helping the partnership work. She also talked about the addition of bodycams coming this year as an important step. Sadat was joined at the conference by DuPage NAACP President Michael Childress, Unity Partnership founder Regina Brent, and Paul Scott, who serves as a law enforcement liaison for Unity Partnership.
